Dad
My dad had hip replacement surgery a week ago. He expected to go home last Friday or Saturday, but here it is, 7 days later, and he's still in the hospital. He is susceptible to blood clots, and he has some in both lungs currently. The hospital has been WONDERFUL. He's getting excellent care, the staff has been great, and they've acted very proactively to treat the clots. Dad is bored. He wants to go home. But they don't even want him out of bed until the clots dissipate--there is a chance they can travel and do terrible damage if he gets up and walks around.

How is your dad doing?
ReplyDeleteHas he tried to walk yet anyway? My grandfather (who has had a bunch of surgeries lately) is always non-compliant, lol. He keeps his own meds stashed in a separate bag and doesn't even mention half of them pre-op. Makes my mom so mad!!
Aformer co-worker's husband had a hip replacement. He was about 60 IIRC. He loved having it done!!
He's getting to go home today, we think. He's been miserable in the hospital and doesn't plan on pursuing any more elective surgeries EVER. Blood clots are horrible to go through. he's had blood drawn every 6 hours for a week now. ugh.
ReplyDeleteI hope the hip is worth it!! :)
lol -- hopefully he didn't have ABGs done b/c they look beyond painful! Hope he's home! And blood clots are not fun! We had a pt last week who was morbidly, morbidly obese anyway, but his blood clot on a knee made it swell way up.....
ReplyDeleteMy grandfather has turned into elective surgery king now. My grandmom has needed a shoulder replacement probably since before I was born but she refuses, lol.
