Pneumonia

I took Grace to the pediatrician today for a cough and fever that have persisted. It turns out she and I both have mycoplasma Pneumonia. The dr was kind enough to listen to me breathe, too, and write me a prescription for a stronger antibiotic than what I'm already taking. I'm grateful to him.

Here's to an early bedtime tonight.

Whoa oh oh . . .

Listen to the music!

My new piano is coming next week!! I can't wait. I'm going to order some beginning piano books for Grace. I have some of my music unpacked and ready to go. This is going to be sooo fun!

On Two and a Half Men, Charlie was playing piano, upbeat, when his date made a comment that upset him. He modulated into a minor key, and pounded away. I told Terry to watch out--that's what I would be doing in a few weeks if he ticked me off!

I'm excited about playing daily and teaching my children and having little family "concerts", featuring Grace Who Sings and AJ the Harmonicaist Extraordinaire. Accompanied by Mom. And featuring Gracie, the newest piano player.

Late Library Book

I came across this article and found it interesting, considering that I am notorious for losing library books or returning them late.

We found a preschool!!

AJ is going to a Lutheran preschool in the area, with the 3 year olds, 3 days a week. This is after completing his first morning of school. He was EXHAUSTED. And so happy. He loved his teacher and his friends. He liked playing dinosaurs and snakes. He did NOT like "be quiet." :) We're working on it.

Grace and her "special guy", aka Daddy, went to an Ice Cream Sock Hop sponsored by the American Heritage Girls. (kind of like Girl Scouts, with a Christian emphasis). They had a great time! I made her poodle skirt just for the occasion. She picked out the material, of course.

Happy New Year 2009

This is the New Year's card some of you will be getting hopefully by the end of the month!!! We were still settling in through Dec and decided to do New YEars cards again this year instead of Christmas cards. Well, I finished the card and then got sick this week. So the plan is to get it out Monday!!!

Terry has been on call for us for 72 hours now, and he's done great. I started to feel better and he thought he'd rest for a bit. Poor guy. My hero.

Illness

This is what it looks like when both I and the two kids are sick. Terry had to miss three days of work to care for us. I'm feeling better today--kids are still running fevers. Then they get some motrin/tylenol and perk up and run around like banshees, only to crash again.

Dad, again.

Please pray for my dad.

He is in the hospital again, with pneumonia, blood clots in both legs, and a fracture on the hip that did not have surgery.

And did I mention that the man hates hospitals? His morale is quite low.

Preschool

Who knew that finding a decent preschool with openings in the middle of the year would be so difficult?

The preschools with openings are much higher priced than I am willing to spend. And they have larger class sizes, too, which bemuses me.

The preschool I'm REALLY interested in says the child must be potty trained. Tell that to AJ.

The others are full, for the most part. Or more daycare than preschool. I'm not interested in throwing my child in a daycare/preschool with a bunch of kids who are there from 6am to 6pm. I'm wanting him socialized, learning, exploring, discovering, creating. Not babysat. I'd keep him home for THAT! :)

And why do so many schools keep telling me about VPK? I didn't ask about VPK. AJ's not eligible agewise for VPK until he's almost 5--two years away. And I have no intentions to put him in VPK, even when he IS eligible. I just think that going to school 5 days a week, all day, for a 4 year old, esp. with AJ's personality, is too much for him.

For those of you non-Florida folk, VPK is Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten. The state provides pre-kindergarten to all 4 year olds. You must attend 5 days a week, and attendance is taken. Most of the preschools in the area now offer VPK because, hey, everyone does it, it's free! I fail to see how VPK will help my personal situation. Putting children in a class of 18 4 year olds vs. private, one on one, instruction . . . .to me, it's a no brainer. I see the value for people who cannot/choose not to teach their children. And I see the value for both parents working full time, because it helps their bank account. But it's not valuable to our family at this time. Good luck trying to find a 3-day a week 4 year old program!!!!

End of rant.
